Summary: Buy and sell municipal primary and secondary market securities and maintain and update the inventory of municipal bonds to ensure the timely and profitable sale of bonds to clients and other brokers.
Qualifications: (including specific Education and License requirements)
Seasoned knowledge of the securities market, interest levels, and FINRA & SEC regulations for trading securities and company trading policies and procedures.
Successful completion of the General Securities Representative Exam (Series 7) and State Law Exam (Series 63).
Prior experience as a municipal bond trader preferred.
Sound judgment, analytical ability, flexibility and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and human relation skills.
Ability to make independent decisions in pressure situations.
Ability to work within strict deadlines and respond to ever-changing priorities as dictated by market conditions.
Duties:
Buy and sell secondary securities to ensure the timely and profitable retail and institutional sale of municipal bonds to customers and other brokers. This requires the position to remain current on economic and market conditions and interest rate fluctuations and to exercise sound judgment when making decisions regarding the buying and selling of secondary market securities. The Firm's capital is being committed in these activities.
Assists the public finance department in the pricing, buying and selling of municipal securities. Determine the rate of interest on related underwriting issues for the Firm, and calculate bids on all competitive issues. The position is challenged to remain current and understand economic and market conditions and interest rate fluctuations due to the impact these factors have on municipal products.
Consult with Investment Consultants (IC's) and clients to determine product need. Advice IC's on locating, marketing and obtaining municipal bonds.
Maintain an awareness of new tax-free products and/or securities for retail distribution.
Coordinate municipal trading activities with the underwriters, operations and sales and marketing personnel to ensure the profitable sale of these products.
Maintain and update an inventory of municipal bonds and to facilitate customer investment needs and generate a trading profit for the Firm.
